ABOUT
The Fitzgerald Biosphere
The Fitzgerald Biosphere (FB) is located on the South Coast of Western Australia and is recognised for its high botanical diversity, species endemism and high level of threats.
Located in the internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot of south-west Australia, the Fitzgerald Biosphere surrounds the Fitzgerald River National Park (most of which is contained within the Biosphere core zonation and contains around 20% of WA’s described plant species) and includes surrounding farmland, towns and coastline.
ABOUT
The FBCC
The FBCC is a collaborative group of Partners which recognises the unique and diverse region in which it operates, the Fitzgerald Biosphere.
The FBCC is a not-for-profit, apolitical, independent and community-based collaborative organisation that is not a registered entity, rather a collective of organisations and individuals.
It is the intent of the FBCC that the interests of all cross sections of the Fitzgerald Biosphere community within the region are fairly represented.
ABOUT
UNESCO
UNESCO, which stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, is a specialised agency of the United Nations.
UNESCO designated sites connect the world and bring out the best in our shared humanity.
Its mission is to promote peace, security, and sustainable development through international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communication.

Honour Statement
The Fitzgerald Biosphere Region is traditional Country of Noongar peoples, encompassing over 1.5 million hectares of land and water within the Southwest Australian Biodiversity Hotspot.
We recognise that this connection to Country is multidimensional, and at the core of Noongar cultural identity and wellbeing. Upholding and cherishing Noongar connection and culture is central to a healthy, shared future for the Fitzgerald Biosphere Region.
Within the Noongar community, knowledge taught by Elders on Boodja (Country), family stories of cherished places and pride in restoring Country is held in peoples' hearts and minds. As the non-Indigenous community continues to learn from Noongar peoples, we all come to understand the deep importance of language, place, belonging, inclusion, belief, and knowledge in connecting our collective hearts and minds to the Fitzgerald Biosphere Region.
The Fitzgerald Biosphere Community Collective recognises and honours all Noongar peoples for whom the Fitzgerald Biosphere Region is Country.

The Fitzgerald River National Park is without doubt the most important Mediterranean ecosystem reserve in the world. It stands out for its scientific, conservation and educational values in the same way that the Galapagos Islands do.
